The environmental consulting team at ABS holds numerous asbestos, mold, and lead-based paint licenses. Our professionals have a strong understanding of federal regulations including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We also possess a keen knowledge of several state regulations including the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and other southeastern state regulations. In addition to decades of field experience, our environmental team also spends a significant amount of time in the classroom training professionals in the areas of asbestos, indoor air quality, mold, and lead.
ABS environmental scientists and field technicians consult with clients on all levels of asbestos, mold, and lead-based paint compliance. We conduct surveys, perform testing, as well as assess and categorize the contaminants. If abatement is necessary, ABS develops compliant project designs to remove the contaminants, help clients obtain competitive bids, and oversee the abatement process to ensure safe remediation.
ABS also has the resources to handle large-scale environmental projects caused by natural disasters. Our engineers and consutltants have been involved in numerous post-disaster projects throughout the southeast including Hurricanes Hugo, Frances, Charley, Ivan, Jeanne, Wilma, and Katrina. We have an emergency response team ready to assess damaged buildings for mold, asbestos, and lead based paint prior to demolition or renovation projects.
From schools to hospitals to government facilities, ABS has the experience and dedication necessary to assess all types of environmental problems and provide professional assistance throughout the remediation process.
Case Study: Workers Saved from Asbestos Exposure
A large insurance company contacted ABS regarding a mold abatement project at a hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The insurance company wanted ABS to assess the mold to make sure the mold removal was being conducted properly. The ceiling in question had a popcorn texture – a product that typically contained asbestos. Accordingly, ABS consultants collected samples of the ceiling and shipped the samples to the lab. The next day, the findings confirmed the samples contained asbestos. Before the mold abatement could continue, an asbestos abatement contractor had to remove the asbestos. Although the project was delayed, ABS ensured the building was compliant and prevented dangerous exposure to the workers.
